Have you been thinking about fall photos?

Autumn is one of the most popular seasons for portrait sessions. The weather will be cooling down, so you'll get a chance to play up your wardrobe with accessories (and still be comfortable)! I've listed some tips to help you prepare for your sessions.

7 Tips for Your Autumn Session

1. Layers are perfect for achieving a variety of looks without losing time to full outfit changes. Scarves, boots, hats, and denim are great choices. Avoid matching each other or blending into the background. Tip: neutrals do really well in the fall against all that foliage.

3. Location is everything. If it's autumn, you should absolutely check out any of our gorgeous state parks! There are apple orchards, pumpkin patches, corn fields and so many other places to choose from. I'm also open to your suggestions!

4. The days are shorter in the fall, so we need to plan accordingly. Don't be disappointed if it's cloudy during our session - moody skies and no sun in the eyes is ideal! If your session includes kiddos, have dinner before the session (to prevent hangry meltdowns) and maybe grab a treat afterwards. I always encourage people to make a day out of it!

5. Plan your prints. Before your session, look around your home and decide what and where you'd like to put your finished images. This can help you decide what to wear AND what pose or look to focus on. A large canvas wrap, or small collage of framed prints look great in any home!

6. Pack the necessities. It can get chilly in autumn, so you may want to have some necessities on hand. I recommend a lip balm, hairbrush, moisturizer, warm packs for your hands, and wipes/tissues.

7. Wear comfortable shoes and accessories. Since we're going to be outside, we'll probably do lots of walking. If those boots look amazing, but kill your feet, pack them and bring along. You can change into them when we’re ready to start taking pictures. If the scarf looks adorable on Timmy, but it scratches his face and makes him unhappy, we won’t get the images you want.
